چکیده
This mini-review article addresses the development in synthesizing polyolefin/clay nanocomposites by olefin polymerization under catalysis of clay intercalated precatalysts in recent years. The review comprises three parts which focus on mainly the synthetic route, structural characterization, and properties of polyolefin/clay nanocomposites, respectively. Moreover, outlook for future research and development trends is outlined.

In Situ Synthesis of Polymer/Clay Nanocomposites by Type II Photoinitiated Free Radical Polymerization
INTRODUCTION Polymer/clay nanocomposites, in which nanosized silicate plates of clay are uniformly dispersed in the polymer matrix, provide enhanced mechanical and thermal properties compared to conventional composites. Not all polymer and clay combinations will form nanocomposites: the compatibility and interfacial properties between polymer matrix and clay layers significantly influence the e...

QIAN ZHAO: CO2-mediated formation of polymer/clay nanocomposites (Under the direction of Edward T. Samulski) In this thesis, the feasibility of scCO2 as both a processing medium and a polymerization medium for preparation of polymer/clay nanocomposites has been explored, with the first part discussing a CO2-mediated intercalation of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) in clay. It has been shown that CO2...

متن کاملMorphology control of clay-mineral particles as supports for metallocene catalysts in propylene polymerization
Spray dry granulation of clay minerals was studied to obtain clay mineral base support material for metallocene supported olefin polymerization catalysts. The morphology of the granules was strongly influenced by the nature of the clay mineral itself. Because of swelling characteristics of montmorillonite, its water dispersion was highly viscous even in the low slurry concentration (< 4 wt %). ...
متن کاملPolysulfone/Clay Nanocomposites by in situ Photoinduced Crosslinking Polymerization
PSU/MMT nanocomposites are prepared by dispersing MMT nanolayers in a PSUmatrix via in situ photoinduced crosslinking polymerization. Intercalated methacrylate-functionalized MMT and polysulfone dimethacrylate macromonomer are synthesized independently by esterification. In situ photoinduced crosslinking of the intercalated monomer and the PSU macromonomer in the silicate layers leads to nanoco...
